Although I learned some piano as a child and have enjoyed singing in community choirs, I have never considered myself a musician. As I started this project, I came to find that music was the medium through which I most wanted to express the turmoil of emotions that I’d been feeling. The songs included in this project are (bar one other) my first compositions. The lyrics do not always refer personally to me or exclusively to autism as the challenge in my life.
I hope these songs can help all kinds of people dealing with personal difficulties or issues of difference.
There are many people to thank, and a fuller list is in my acknowledgements section in the book. However, I would very much like to acknowledge here Gideon Cozens for creative assistance with the music and for producing the recordings. A million thank yous! And, of course, I would like to thank my son - simply for being who he is, for inspiring me, and giving me so much love.
